Labor lawyer Betsy Rader wants to represent Ohio’s 14th district in Congress and she has focused much of her campaign thus far on the issue of healthcare and healthcare “rights.”
Rader, running against incumbent Rep. David Joyce (R-OH-14), announced she will hold a town hall meeting on healthcare Monday, Sept. 10, at the Kirtland Senior Center. She describes it as a “listening session” but it remains to be seen whether she will listen to those with opposing views on abortion.
According to Rader’s platform, the right to a healthy and happy life does not extend to the unborn baby, even those fully developed in the final weeks of pregnancy.
Rader refers to a seminal moment a couple of months after she attended the anti-Trump Women’s March in Washington, D.C., rallying in support of abortion rights amid throngs of women in pink pussy hats.
She told the News-Herald that rallying in support of Obamacare outside of Joyce’s district office in Painesville was the moment she seriously considered running for Congress.
“I had worked Cleveland Clinic and in Medicare and Medicaid, I had done the Woman’s March, and a lot of people were feeling like what they had to say didn’t matter and nobody was listening,” Rader told the News-Herald.
Rader is challenging Joyce, who is finishing up his third term as a pro-life, pro-Second Amendment congressman who voted for President Trump’s tax cut and favors repealing and replacing Obamacare, replacing it with, as Trump says, “something better.”
But Rader casts Joyce as being “against” women and “against” women’s healthcare because he is pro life and against Obamacare.
Joyce and Rep. Steve Chabot, also a pro-life Republican from Ohio’s first district, have been targeted for defeat by the abortion lobby, including the George Soros-backed Emily’s List.
Rader has the endorsement of Emily’s List and the Planned Parenthood Action Fund, as well as the Human Rights Campaign, which lobbies for LGBTQ rights.
Last month Rader boasted on her Facebook page that she had garnered the support of the Emily’s List PAC in her campaign against Joyce.
Great news! The Plain Dealer reported that EMILY’s List is ‘very excited’ to be working with me to defeat David Joyce. EMILY’s List is targeting for defeat GOP members who have failed to put women’s rights ahead of their own self-interests in Washington. And guess what? David Joyce is on that list.”
This “great news” covers up the real agenda of Emily’s List. It is a single-issue PAC devoted to abortion rights much of Ohio would consider extreme.
According to Discover the Networks, the PAC requires ultra-extreme views on abortion to win its endorsement.
Formally, there are only three requirements a candidate must meet in order to be eligible for support from EMILY’s List: The candidate must be a woman, she must be a Democrat, and she must support unrestricted access to taxpayer-funded abortion-on-demand. EL has occasionally withdrawn its support from women expressing even the barest opposition to any abortion-related ‘right.’ U.S. Senator Mary Landrieu (D-Louisiana), for instance, lost EL’s backing in 1997 after she voted in favor of a ban on the practice commonly known as ‘partial-birth abortion.'”
Rader, with the help of the abortion industry, raised $350,000 in the second quarter of 2018, bringing her total fundraising to over $1 million. She launched her first TV ad this week, focusing on the healthcare debate. She is considered an underdog candidate in a race that is becoming more competitive by the day, thanks to the money pouring in from liberal labor unions and single-issue ideologues.
