Senator JD Vance Congratulates Donald Trump on Iowa Win, Declares the Primary Is ‘Over’

Ohio U.S. Senator JD Vance (R-OH) congratulated former President Donald Trump on his historic win in Iowa’s Republican presidential caucus on Monday night.

“Congrats to Donald Trump on a historic victory! Desantis is a very good governor, and he’ll have a bright future if he recognizes what many of us recognized months ago: Trump will be our nominee and the most useful thing all of us can do is focus on beating Joe Biden,” Vance wrote in an X post on Tuesday.

Vance further called on Republicans to “unite and win” following Monday’s results.

“How many more sound bites will we give the opposition to use against Trump? How much additional money will we spend that could be used on the general election? The primary is OVER. The only question is how much we shoot ourselves in the foot,” Vance added.

Vance endorsed Trump in the 2024 presidential election nearly one year ago, announcing the news through an opinion piece published in The Wall Street Journal.

Trump won all but one of Iowa’s 99 counties during Monday night’s caucus.

In Johnson County, Former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley emerged victorious by a slight margin, as she received by just one more vote than Trump, according to the most updated vote tallies published by the Iowa Republican Party.

In total, Trump received 56,260 votes (51 percent) in Iowa on Monday followed by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ 23,420 votes (21.2 percent), Haley’s 21,085 votes (19.1 percent), and businessman Vivek Ramaswamy’s 8,449 votes (7.7 percent).

A total of 110,298 votes were tallied on Monday.

Ramaswamy, who came in fourth place, suspended his campaign and announced he would be endorsing Trump moving forward.

The GOP primary now shifts to New Hampshire, as the state’s primary election day is Tuesday, January 23.
