Ohio Democrats Renew Gun Control Efforts on Gun Violence Awareness Day

Ohio Democrats took to Twitter Friday to renew their calls for gun control legislation on the fifth annual National Gun Violence Awareness Day.

“Our members will wear orange this weekend in support of a future free of gun violence. Learn more about how Ohio House Dems are advocating for commonsense gun safety laws to keep Ohio kids and communities safe,” the Ohio House Democratic Caucus wrote on Twitter.

House Democrats are continuing to push for legislation that would introduce red-flag laws and universal background checks to the state.

2020 hopeful Rep. Tim Ryan (D-OH-13) urged his colleagues in the U.S. Senate to join the House in passing gun-control laws.

“The impacts of gun violence are felt in every American community. Enough is enough,” he wrote on Twitter. “Too many families across the country live every day with the pain and loss caused by gun violence. The House has taken action to save lives. The Senate must do the same.”

“It will take all of us uniting to demand gun reform policies. I have had enough of innocent people dying. Haven’t you?” Rep. Marcia Fudge (D-OH-11) added. “Show your support and join those of us who value human life by wearing orange today.”

Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) posted a video to Twitter and said he was wearing orange “in honor of all those whose lives have been taken by senseless and preventable gun violence.”

“Thoughts and prayers are not enough—we need Congress to stand up to the gun lobby and pass common sense laws to protect Americans from gun violence,” he said.

“Our students aren’t safe. People aren’t safe in their places of worship until Congress moves,” he continued. “And it’s time—again I call on my colleagues in the House and the Senate to pass common sense legislation to combat gun violence.”

Rep. Joyce Beatty (D-OH-03) said Congress owes it to the victims of gun violence, “their families, and all Americans to find bipartisan solutions to end gun violence.”
