Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan Expected to Receive Presidential Medal of Freedom

President Trump is reportedly set to award a Presidential Medal of Freedom to Rep. Jim Jordan, the U.S. Republican Representative for Ohio from the 4th District.

Jordan has been a vocal supporter of Trump, particularly in regards to impeachment proceedings in 2019 and claims of election fraud. The representative spearheaded a letter to Judiciary Committee Chair Jerry Nadler (D-NY-10)  and Oversight panel Chair Carolyn Maloney (D-NY-12) asking for Congress to investigate claims of election fraud.

Jordan also led the president’s defense at his impeachment hearing.

Although not officially announced by the White House, the upcoming award has been confirmed by two GOP leaders, according to Cleveland.com.

The Presidential Medal of Freedom, established by former President John Kennedy in 1963, in this country’s highest civilian honor and is awarded to people “who have made exceptional contributions to the security or national interests of America, to world peace, or to cultural or other significant public or private endeavors,” according to the White House.

Other recipients of the award from Trump include the late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, singer Elvis Presley, golfer Tiger Woods, baseball player George “Babe” Ruth Jr. and  radio host Rush Limbaugh. Trump has awarded 19 Presidential Medals of Freedom since he took office.

Jordan’s reported award follows Trump awarding Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA-22) the same honor on Monday. The White House cited an investigation, launched by Nunes, “into the Obama-Biden administration’s misconduct during the 2016 election.”

“Devin Nunes’ courageous actions helped thwart a plot to take down a sitting United States president.  Devin’s efforts led to the firing, demotion, or resignation of over a dozen FBI and DOJ employees,” the White House said. “…Congressman Devin Nunes is a public servant of unmatched talent, unassailable integrity, and unwavering resolve. He uncovered the greatest scandal in American history.”

Jordan has not yet publicly responded to the report of the upcoming award.
