Ohio GOP Rep. Mike Turner Hints at Senate Run in New Video

U.S. Rep. Mike Turner (R-OH) teased a potential run for a seat in the United States Senate on Monday, releasing a video thanking people for the suggestion and support.

The video, released on Twitter, highlights Turner’s background in Tae Kwon Do, corporate law and role as former mayor of Dayton, Ohio. It also emphasizes his support for national security and military affairs.

“[Turner] used a commanding conservative voice in Congress, fighting to protect our families, our values and our country,” the video said.

Turner represents Ohio’s 10th district, covering Montgomery County, Greene County and Fayette County. He won his seat in the House by 58 percent of the vote during the 2020 election and was first elected to Congress in 2002. Turner currently serves as the Ranking Member of the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Strategic Forces.

“I am humbled and grateful to everyone who has reached out and encouraged me to look at running for United States Senate,” Turner said in a tweet releasing the video. “I look forward to hearing from Ohioans on what we need from our next Senator.”

The video also covered Turner’s support for former President Donald Trump during his impeachment, featuring a clip of Trump saying that Turner is a “hell of a lawyer.”

Turner has not formally announced a run for the U.S. Senate, but thanked supporters for the suggestion and continued backing.

“Thank you for those who have encouraged me to seek the United States Senate seat. I have successfully fought for jobs, our communities, our national security, and, yes, America first,” Turner said in the video. “It takes a strong voice, a proven and tested conservative voice, to win for Ohio. Thank you for your support for me to be that voice to fight for Ohio and to fight for our country.”
