Biden Struggles to Answer Reporter’s Question About Why as a Catholic He Supports Abortion Rights

Self-described “Catholic” President Joe Biden struggled with a question from a reporter from the Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN) on Ash Wednesday about why, as a Catholic, he supports abortion rights.

EWTN Washington, D.C., correspondent Owen Jensen asked Biden, who had apparently received ashes on the first day of Lent, why he again expressed his support for abortion during his State of the Union address Tuesday evening.

“Last night, you continued to support Roe v. Wade,” Jensen said, and then asked, “Why do you support abortion, as a Catholic, defying Church teaching?”

After the question was asked, first lady Jill Biden appeared to scurry quickly behind her husband.

“I tell you what, I don’t want to get into a debate with you on theology,” Biden responded, then appeared to turn slightly to his wife, then back to Jensen and said, “Well, anyway.”

“I am not going to make a judgment for other people,” Biden said, ending his response.

Biden stopped for some questions as he prepared to walk across the White House lawn toward a waiting Marine One.

As Catholic News Agency reported, other reporters asked Biden less challenging questions, such as, what he planned to give up for Lent.

Biden said he received ashes in the morning from Cardinal Wilton Gregory of Washington, D.C. He added he gave up “all sweets” for Lent.

“And I’m – you know me, I start off with dessert,” he said. “No ice cream. Nothing.”

Using the narrative of the abortion industry that ending the life of an unborn child is “health care,” Biden said in his State of the Union address:

Folks, advancing liberty and justice also requires protecting the rights of women. The constitutional right affirmed by Roe v. Wade, standing precedent for half a century, is under attack as never before.

If you want to go forward not backwards, we must protect access to healthcare; preserve a woman’s right to choose — and continue to advance maternal health care for all Americans.

Though Biden has identified himself as a Catholic, he has also vowed to defend abortion rights, a promise that earned him the endorsement of Planned Parenthood during his presidential bid in June 2020.

Biden also embraced the Democrat Party’s pro-abortion agenda that included codifying Roe v. Wade, fully funding Planned Parenthood, and forcing American taxpayers to fund abortions.
