Mayorkas Planning ‘Backlog Amnesty’ for Nearly 2 Million Illegals

by Eric Lendrum

Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas is planning to roll out a mass amnesty plan for approximately 1.7 million illegal aliens who are currently in courtroom backlogs awaiting deportation.

Breitbart reports that the plan will see officials use the massive backlog as an excuse to justify handing out work permits, green cards, and other forms of amnesty to the illegals, in order to reduce the amount of work, time, and resources that the government would have to otherwise spend dealing with the backlog.

The DHS will further justify this policy by pointing to the administration’s plans to end Title 42, the highly successful policy that almost completely shut down immigration to the country during the COVID-19 pandemic, citing the health risks of millions of unvetted, unvaccinated, and unhealthy illegals coming into the country. First implemented by the Trump Administration, the Biden Administration is set to end the policy due to its attempts to create an image that the pandemic is over; at the same time, DHS officials have acknowledged that lifting the policy will unleash a whole new wave of illegals into the country, which could result in as many as 18,000 arrests at the border per day.

“This is the equivalent of nullifying our immigration laws,” said Rob Law, a spokesman for the Center for Immigration Studies.

“This is how this will be teed up,” Law continued. “They’ll say, ‘As you know, these people were being subjected to these draconian [deportation] rules of the past that don’t reflect our current equity and compassion…but now it’s not right for them to not have the opportunity to have a livelihood.’ That’s what the messaging will be for next giving them mass parole or some [status] that allows a work permit.”

Biden’s plan is nevertheless being supported by far-left amnesty advocates, including the American Immigration Council. Spokesman Aaron Reichlin-Melnick said in a statement that “there are 1.6 million cases in immigration court,” and “if we want to clear backlogs, absent Congress, using prosecutorial discretion to dismiss many of these cases is the only way forward.” By contrast, during the two terms of the Obama Administration, Obama’s DHS ultimately dismissed about 160,000 backlogged deportation cases.

But the potential for a whole new wave of illegals has raised concerns about even greater damage to the American economy. The border crisis has been ongoing since Biden first took office in January of 2021, and has led to an influx of low-skilled, low-wage workers into the American economy, forcing many American citizens out of work due to the illegals being more willing to work for lower wages. This dynamic will only be further exacerbated by the ongoing inflation crisis, which has caused the cost of living to skyrocket for Americans across the board, as wages have been unable to keep up with the rising costs of food, gasoline, and other basic necessities.
