BuzzFeed Announces Plans to Use AI for Content Creation

BuzzFeed announced Thursday that it would begin using artificial intelligence to help generate its content.

The company will partner with OpenAI to start producing “AI inspired content,” according to CNN Business, and plans to make such output an integral part of its regular business.

OpenAI is well-known for its creation of Chat CPT, but BuzzFeed will be using the company’s publicly available API (application programming interface), Reuters reported.

“To be clear, we see the breakthroughs in AI opening up a new era of creativity that will allow humans to harness creativity in new ways with endless opportunities and applications for good,” said BuzzFeed CEO Jonah Peretti, per CNN.

The AI will not be used to write news stories, but will begin to create the company’s well-known quizzes and focus on personalizing content for readers.

BuzzFeed stock surged more than 150% following the announcement.

News of BuzzFeed’s plans to work with OpenAI comes the same day as a Wall Street Journal report that the company had secured a $10 million deal with Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, to help put content creators on those platforms.
