Commentary: Does Anyone Really Think Impeachment Take Two is About Upholding the Constitution?

by Julie Strauss Levin

How precious it is to witness the same party that rejects the United States Constitution on a daily basis, now genuflects to and contorts the Constitution when it is convenient for their Democrat agenda.  The truth is the second impeachment trial of President Donald Trump has nothing to do with upholding the Constitution.

President Trump’s attorneys have clearly responded to the absurd Article of Impeachment.  Their answer on Trump’s behalf is clear and straightforward.

Put simply, and a plain reading of the Constitution by any grade school student will corroborate, you can’t remove someone from office who is not in office.  And, the word “and” means just that:  in order to be disqualified from holding office, a person needs to first be in office, then removed and then disqualified from holding office in the future.  In other words, you can’t be disqualified if you weren’t in office at the time of the impeachment.  What part of “and” does the Democrat party not understand?

And then there is the matter of Chief Justice Roberts declining to preside over the trial.  The text of the Constitution is abundantly clear at Article 1, Section 3, Clause 6 of the United States Constitution that when a president is being tried for impeachment, “the Chief Justice shall preside…” (emphasis added)

Instead, Patrick Leahy, who just happens to be the longest serving member of the Senate (Exhibit 1 for term limits) and is a Democrat will preside.  Details, details.

As for the horrific events at the US Capitol on January 6, they were just that.  Horrific.

But President Trump did not incite anyone to do anything.  What he actually said to his supporters was to “peacefully and patriotically make [their] voices heard.”  No never mind that violent activity was reportedly planned before January 6 by third parties.

An FBI Virginia field office shared with the FBI in DC information warning about potential violence and “war” at the Capitol on January 6th, the Senate and House Sergeants-at-Arms were warned about potential security issues prior to January 6, pipe bombs had been placed at the Republican and Democrat National Committee offices on January 5, and other inconvenient truths abound.

If it was about violence against America, then a whole lot of Democrats need to be impeached or removed from office. Just look at the playbook of the Left, from Biden to Harris, to Schumer, Pelosi, Waters, Booker, and others. They all applauded, championed, and rewarded violence for months on end. People were hurt, businesses ruined, and lives were lost.

So let’s cut to the chase.  The continuous, obsessive witch hunt of President Trump, the one non-politician who successfully took on Washington, goes back to the use of the “I” word from the day Trump rode down the elevator in 2015 to announce his candidacy for president.  Years of hatred and vitriol have ensued ever since.

We all know the truth of the matter is that this second bite at the impeachment apple is the left’s last chance to pay retribution for President Trump’s successes, and to prevent him, albeit unconstitutionally, from running for office again.  They well know that this attempt will be unsuccessful, but they don’t care.  They are in their sixth year of trying to destroy a man whose sole goal was to yank our exceptional country back to its founding principles where “we the people” had voice.

The media, Big Tech, and the establishment, march gleefully along with the Democrat mighty and Marxist-loving machine. It’s not about winning, it’s about sending a message of power.  And where is Mr. I-Want-to-Unify Biden and his giggling side-kick?  Busy wreaking havoc on every sector of our beloved country. They have no interest in truth or unity.  They couldn’t be happier with this week’s disgraceful and outrageous display.
