Gibbons Commits $9.9 Million Media Buy Through May 3 Primary as 88-County Tour Begins

Cleveland businessman Mike Gibbons has reserved $9.9 million worth of television, cable and radio advertising through the next nine months in his bid to secure the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate.

The nine-month commitment through the May 3 primary includes $2.9 million in media planned buys before year’s end.

“The bulk of it is television advertising but the ads also will run online,” Gibbons’ communications director Samantha Cotten tells The Ohio Star. “But the ads will broadcast online.”

Radio advertising will cover the more rural communities, she said.

Ad Transcript:
“America has been knocked down by the left, but football taught me to get back up.
“We have something to stand for. We believe in the greatness of America.
“And secure borders, the right to bear arms, fair elections, the sanctity of life, and
the power of faith.
“I’m Mike Gibbons, and I approved this message, because winning isn’t everything.
It’s the only thing.”

The campaign noted the media commitment through Dec. 31 is just shy of the $2.9 million Gibbons spent in his second-place finish in the 2018 GOP primary for U.S. Senate.

In conjunction with the launch of the advertising campaign, the campaign plans to take Gibbons’ conservative message to voters in all of Ohio’s 88 counties in August and September.

The first ad in the push toward the nomination begins Friday, July 30 with a 30-second spot called  “We Believe,” featuring football imagery related to Gibbons’ football days at St. Ignatius High School in Cleveland and Kenyon College, a private college in Gambier, Ohio.

The Strategy Group for Media, a national producer of political broadcast ads based in Powell, Ohio, produced the latest Gibbon ad.

The campaign reported $5.8 million cash in hand on June 30. with $5 million of the $6 million raised during the quarter from the candidate.
