An Ohio congressional candidate responded Friday evening after being subpoenaed by the congressional January 6 Committee, which is investigating the mostly-peaceful protest at the Capitol early this year.
“Upon taking office, I will make sure one of my first votes is to disband this partisan committee that has weaponized its powers against innocent Americans. Ohioans are tired of watching D.C.’s witch hunts and political theater while the country burns,” Miller said in response to the subpoena.
“Sadly, it’s the only card the Democrats can play, because their policies are destroying our nation,” he continued. “I will accept service of this subpoena, but I will defend my rights just as I will defend the rights of my constituents when elected.”

The candidate, who has been endorsed by former President Donald J. Trump, said that he will comply with the subpoena, but that he intends to defend his rights. Miller was an aide in the Trump administration.
“Max Miller is a wonderful person who did a great job in the White House and will be a fantastic congressman,” Trump said in his endorsement of Miller, which is prominently displayed on Miller’s campaign website. “He is a Marine Veteran, a son of Ohio and a true PATRIOT. Max Miller has my Complete and Total Endorsement!”
Miller did not return a comment request.
Friday’s wave of subpoenas by the controversial committee included five other people who helped organize protests in Washington on January 5 and January 6.
Former North Carolina congressman and Trump Chief of Staff Mark Meadows was subpoenaed by the committee, and has filed a lawsuit against House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA-12) and the rest of the committee in an attempt to block that committee.
Steve Bannon ignored the committee’s subpoena.
He was then referred to the Department of Justice for criminal prosecution, and charged with Contempt of Congress. He has pleaded not guilty.
