Leahy and Kellett Question Whether Impeachment Efforts Will Provide a Backlash for Democrats on The Battleground State Report

In a specific discussion on Friday’s Battleground State Report with Michael Patrick Leahy and Doug Kellett – a one-hour radio show from Star News Digital Media in the early stages of national weekend syndication rollout – Leahy and Kellett discussed the current impeachment inquiry and whether or not this will create a backlash for Democrats particularly the 31 Democrat’s whose districts are in swing states that voted for Trump in 2016.

In the second segment of the show, the men discussed how this push for impeachment was a Christmas rush job that lacked all elements of the rule of law and fairness. Leahy likened the situation to the French Revolution.

Kellett: I was going to say this problem was designed to talk about the upcoming 2020  election and the states that are going to be affected and everything. Lately, it’s been about investigations or soon to be investigations. And you mentioned a moment ago on the program that they may actually have some kind of vote before the holidays here.

What about that? They sort rapid process that’s going on here. What do you make of that? Apparently they’re just going to focus on this Ukranian phone call?

Leahy: This rapid movement is basically an effort to rush to judgment. I know you’re shocked. It’s got elements of the French Revolution to it. Let’s hurry up and convict the guy before we actually have any evidence to do. Let’s rush it through.

Kellett: Let’s wrap him up for Christmas for the Democrats to get him under the tree or something?

Leahy: That’s what they’re going to try and do. I think it will ultimately result in backlash because people in America actually still do believe in fairness. What’s fair about this when you have a deep state saboteur basically spying on the President and let’s see how we can create a crime here. That’s what they’re trying to do.

Kellett: It’s funny I’m saying this. Every impeachment is different.

Leahy: Well we’ve had one in your lifetime, Bill Clinton.

Kellett: But I remember the attitude of people saying wait a minute. We elected him. We take him out. You don’t get to do that. That’s what I’m reading on social media. You know we elected him.  There’s an election coming up. If you think you want him removed from office that’s not the way you go about it.

I think that’s a good point your making. Is there going to be a backlash? Let’s just say that he’s not removed from office because I don’t think either one of us thinks it’s going to happen unless there’s some other big thing to call here.

Leahy: They’re going to try and manufacture more. There’s no question about it.

Kellett: Just for the sake of OK, they impeach him because all they need is a majority of votes in the House because he’s not going to be removed from the office. I think a lot of people Mike think impeachment is removal.

Leahy: Impeachment is just moving it to the Senate for a trial.

Kellett: Right. So you’re almost assured they’re not going to impeach him right?

Leahy: I don’t think so. I wouldn’t think so. Right now they had a vote on moving the impeachment inquiry forward. All 231 Democrats in the House voted in favor of that. So the problem is for those Democrats, particularly those 31 Democrats that were elected in districts that Donald Trump won in 2016.

And so the question for those folks is, How does that play in those districts? Is this fairness? Do any of those 231 Democrats in the House, do any of them believe in the rule of law? Are any of them fair and honest? At looking at the evidence you’d have to say absolutely not. They’re a bunch of hardcore ideologues.
