Maury County Poll: Andy Ogles Leads By 10 in Race for Mayor, Bill Lee Leads GOP Gubernatorial Primary by 12

Andy Ogles, Bill Lee

A new poll of voters planning to vote in Maury County in the August 2 election show Republican Andy Ogles leading among all voters in his general election campaign for County Mayor by ten points. The poll also shows conservative Republican businessman Bill Lee leading among Republican voters in the GOP primary race for Governor by twelve points over Congresswoman Diane Black among Republican voters.

The poll, conducted by Right Way Marketing on behalf of Power of Liberty, a non-profit educational group, has a margin of error of 5% for both the general election and the Republican primary election and was conducted from June 24 to 26, 2018.

Voters were asked: “If the election were held today, who would be your choice for Maury County Mayor, the Republican nominee Andy Ogles, Independent candidate Amanda Kelton, Independent candidate Charlie Norman or Independent candidate Sonny Shackelford?”

The poll results were:

Andy Ogles 33%

Charlie Norman 23%

Sonny Shackelford 21%

Amanda Kelton 4%

Undecided 19%

A previous poll conducted by Right Way Marketing from May 14-16 showed Ogles leading with 32.4% over incumbent Independent Charlie Norman – 25.4%.

Early voting in the race begins on July 13.

With respect to the GOP Primary for Governor, Republican survey respondents in Maury County were asked:

“If the election for Governor were held today, would you vote for Diane Black, Randy Boyd, Beth Harwell or Bill Lee?”

The poll results were:

Bill Lee 33%

Diane Black 21%

Randy Boyd 17%

Beth Harwell 12%

Undecided 17%

The poll also indicated that President Donald Trump has 76-12 favorable versus unfavorable margin among all Maury County voters, with 69% of voters more likely to vote for a candidate who supports President Trump.

Tennessee Star Political Editor Steve Gill pointed out that the poll is consistent with data showing a recent surge in support for Bill Lee among Middle Tennessee Republicans. “He is clearly gaining ground in counties in this region of the state,” Gill said, “the question is whether he is also showing movement in other parts of the state where he is less well known.”

“The poll also underlines why candidates are spending time and money promoting their affiliation with President Trump and his policies,” Gill added. “He remains extremely popular in Tennessee, particularly among Republican voters, but it remains to be seen whether Tennesseans support for HIM will attach to candidates who support him. It is more clear that candidates who DON’T support him will pay a price with voters both here in Tennessee and beyond.”

How in the world is illegal immigration the top issue our community needs to focus on??

More than job creation or schools- in Maury County Tennessee- really?? What immigration problems are we combating here exactly?

A prime example of the power of the media and slick politicians to distract from the things that matter with political nonsense.

  2. Ralph

    Polls, schmolls.

Polls are for morons who are unable or unwilling to do the research and make up their own mind, based on their own interests. Likewise endorsements – “Oooo, Bob likes him so I guess it must be the way to go.” Swell.

Identify the issues important to you, research the candidate, and make up your own mind. Or, be a simple-minded stooge who’d rather watch MMA on the teevee, fantasizing about your own abilities, and let someone else chart your destiny.

  3. Stuart I. Anderson

Scott Cepicky is the conservative choice. Good news there to replace the retiring Sheila Butt.
