NRA Gives Diane Black Strong Endorsement for Governor

Diane Black

Today the National Rifle Association announced its endorsement of Diane Black for Governor. The NRA is the oldest and largest gun rights organizations in the nation.

The full letter is available here.

“For over two decades Diane Black has been a steadfast supporter of our constitutional right to self-defense. She has never wavered in the fight to expand and protect the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens,” said Chris W. Cox Chairman of the NRA Political Victory Fund. “Diane Black has a perfect record on Second Amendment issues and we enthusiastically endorse her candidacy.”

Responded Black, “The NRA represents six million of the strongest defenders of the second amendment in our nation, and I am honored to have their support in my race for governor.”

“As governor, I will always fight to protect the second amendment and defend the hundreds of thousands of gun owners in Tennessee,” she continued.

Cox noted that Black is the only Tennessee gubernatorial candidate with an “A” rating and a “perfect record” on Second Amendment issues.

Black is a firearm owner and a lifetime member of the NRA. In Congress, she cosponsored the National Right to Carry Reciprocity Act, voted for the NRA-supported SHARE Act and authored the “TSA Act” to allow for use of handgun carry permits at airport security.

“Tennesseans can trust Diane Black to stand strong in defense of their constitutional freedoms. On behalf of the NRA’s six million members, we urge all Second Amendment supporters to vote Diane Black for governor,” concluded Cox.

The announcement is making news across Tennessee, as well as the country.

Here’s an additional report via The Tennessean.

The political arm of the National Rifle Association endorsed U.S. Rep. Diane Black’s bid for the Republican nomination for governor Thursday.

The coveted endorsement comes just weeks before Black is set to square off against state House Speaker Beth Harwell, Knoxville entrepreneur Randy Boyd and Williamson County businessman Bill Lee in the Aug. 2 primary election.

Early voting for the election begins July 13.

While endorsing Black, Chris Cox, chairman of the NRA’s political victory fund, said, “Diane Black has a perfect record on Second Amendment issues and we enthusiastically endorse her candidacy.”

The NRA noted that Black co-sponsored the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act — which has been approved in the House, but delayed in the Senate and requires states to recognize such permits regardless of where they are issued.

This would be the same NRA that supported the Gun Control Act of 1968 (http://jpfo.org/articles-assd02/gca68-nra4.htm) – or the National Firearms Act of 1934 (http://jpfo.org/articles-assd02/nra-supported-nfa34.htm)? The same NRA that seeks to impose violations of the 4th and 5th Amendments as regards “Extreme Risk Protection Orders” and in the interest of “mental health” ?

Nope, no thanks – I need an advocate for protecting my natural rights to self-defense, not a shill. The 2nd Amendment is not a “right” – it is a prohibition against infringement of what is a natural right. Big difference.

Little wonder they went for an establishment shill like Diane Black – birds of a feather.

I would be impressed if GOA endorsed Black. NRA, not so much. As everyone has stated above, their endorsement is near meaningless.

  3. Austin

Nice to hear that Diane Black responded to the NRA.
She certainly doesn’t respond to her constituents.

This is Hillaryous! I don’t recall Lincoln saying a Government of the special interest group, by the special interest group and for the special interest group…that NRA endorsement was bought and paid for by our tax dollars. And are we supposed to cheer because Ms. Black votes to defend our God-given, Constitutionally guaranteed rights? This is just as pretentous as Beth Harwell saying that she gave us eight balanced State budgets…the TN Constitution requires it!

  5. If one donates enough money to the NRA and has certain connections with their key people, one can obtain that “special endorsement” that is meaningless in real terms. Do folks remember NRA’s glowing endorsement of (former) Senator Harry Reid – a serious leftist who helped Hussein Obama with every “fundamental change” he did? For those who don’t know; what was Reid’s reason to receive this “honor”? His approval for funding of some Nevada shooting range areas – that’s all it took to buy this endorsement.

From me, a former member of NRA from 1981 though 2017…NRA is a top performer in two (02) areas; fundraising and maintaining and managing crises for that fundraising. A full restoration or even a 90% restoration of the 2nd Amendment would put their money machine out of business to a large degree. In Tennessee NRA works against us; promoting meaningless Bills for the most part while promoting and funding politicos who hold back serious restoration of rights.

So, the NRA endorses Diane Black? One should see that on the same terms as their past endorsement of Harry Reid.

I usually support the NRA’s endorsed candidates, but not this time for the gubernatorial race. And in case you missed it, Mae Beavers endorsed Bill Lee for Governor.

  7. Lol the NRA has endorsed Harry Reid in the past! And here in Tennessee they have endorsed the likes of Doug Overbey who had a 40% rating from the NRA but was an incumbent and Tim Wirgau who I don’t believe has ever carried a gun bill has been endorsed by them as well. Guess they like the swamp!
