Ohio Lieutenant Governor Jon Husted has started laying the framework for a future run for statewide office.
Husted’s office announced on Wednesday that the Ohio Secretary of State‘s Office received a “Designation of Treasurer” from the lieutenant governor, which establishes who will oversee the purse strings of a campaign committee.
Ohio law allows a candidate to possess only one campaign committee with their name. “Husted for Ohio” became unavailable when Husted became Governor Mike DeWine‘s running mate in 2017. The “DeWine Husted for Ohio” committee was renamed for DeWine only. “Jon Husted for Ohio” is the name of the newly-formed committee.
Husted’s announcement did not identify specifically which office he intended to run for, although it did mention “statewide, executive office.” He served as Ohio’s secretary of state and is currently serving his second term as lieutenant governor. Husted is one of several likely Republican candidates to run in 2026 to replace DeWine, who can’t run for reelection due to term limits.
Husted selected Blake McNamara to be the campaign’s finance director. Husted’s campaign for Secretary of State and earlier DeWine-Husted campaigns used McNamara as their finance director.
Husted unveiled a new campaign website in conjunction with his statement. Like the news release, the website doesn’t specify what office he may eventually seek.
“Our family and faith have led Tina and me on our journey of service to others. We have done that in our community, through non-profit organizations, our church, and in public office. I am proud of what we have accomplished and of the direction Ohio is now heading, but there is more work to be done. After thought and prayer, Tina and I have agreed: We will continue serving this state and its people – working toward a more prosperous future for everyone, and we will do so as long as the people of Ohio will have us,” Husted said.
After his re-election alongside DeWine in the November 2022 election, Husted is currently serving his second term as lieutenant governor of Ohio.
Husted declared his intention to run for governor of Ohio in 2018. However, Husted withdrew from the bid for governor midway through the primary season and joined DeWine as his running mate.
Husted formerly held positions in both chambers of the Ohio State Legislature and served as Ohio Secretary of State from 2011 to 2019.
Matt Mayer, who has overseen two conservative think tanks in Ohio, declared his intention to run for governor earlier this month. Also thought of as a potential contender is Attorney General Dave Yost.

After reading my own post above, I probably need to be a little more clear. DeSwine’s “little buddy” is NOT John Husted. John Husted has never, to my knowledge, been an administrator of a school in the Ohio penal system. DeSwine’s “little buddy” is NOT John Husted. However, DeSwine’s “little buddy” may never have told DeSwine the kind of person he was (that is two-way pervert) before being hired, but keeping him after raping me (who had helped in his campaig which gave him his start) and then woman teacher and then moving him up to the “big house” is my complaint. I really wonder how many other staff of any other agencies were victims of any kinds of crime and DeSwine covered them up. Maybe thefts, drug deals, other rapes, etc. Who knows? I wonder how much they got paid by him or they paid him. Who knows? It really makes me happy to know he will not misrule Ohio too much longer. How close he is to the electric energy scandal and the payoffs to government so-called Republicans (the RINO type)? Did he receive anything? Has anyone asked? I pray my posts wil not be censored by Ohio Star in the interest of open journalism.
As a true conservative Christian Republican, this RINO who only got elected running on the apron springs of his “little palsy walsy” ultra-RINO DeSwine. DeSwine left true Republicans several years ago. I worked as a teacher in an Ohio state prison. I was raped by one of DeSwine “little buddies” (if you get my point). The law in Ohio says that the State Patrol is to be designated to investigate any reports of crime in any state office or agency, whether workers, administrators, staff, visitors, or even prisoners. DeSwine refused to allow the State Patrol to investigate his “buddy”. Because of the rape I had to be take forced retirement at a pittance of a pension. This man covered up a crime for protect a rapist. Later that same administrator raped a woman. The administrator was not fired or prosecuted again. In fact, he was promoted to work in a cushy office position (at least away from teachers or maybe even prisonsers that maybe he raped but covered up) in Columbus. Now, his Lieutenant Governor is thinking of running for the same office. I trust that his lieutenant is not one of his “little buddies” and will cover up rapes in state agencies/offices. God will judge DeSwine in the Judgement Day. Husted clajms to be a “Christian”. He never stood up to DeSwine. He is not the material to run the state if he cannot even be moral enough to stand up to his corrupt boss. DeWine needs to return to his Cedarville farm. By the way, I regret the day that I helped then DeWine (now Deswine) in his campaign for Greene County Prosecutor when I was student at then Cedarville College (now University). Hey, DeSwine, you never thanked me for all my work on your campaign and then stab me in the butt with one of your “little buddies” raping me and then covering it up. Judgement Day from God is coming. Hope you get ready. I hoped you haven’t trained Husted to cover up rape. How many other people have been victims of crime of any kind because of you and you covered it up. Hope you don’t sleep well, but then I hear the swine can sleep through anything. You know who I am, but I am protecting my reputation by using a similar name for this report. It shouldn’t take you much time to remember…or maybe you are becoming DeSenile.
