Ohio’s Presidential Candidate Tim Ryan Finds Some Support for ‘Worst’ Debate Performance, But Polls at Zero Percent Overall

Rep. Tim Ryan (D-OH-13) polled at zero percent in a post-debate survey of Democratic-leaning voters from Quinnipiac University. He did, however, receive one percent of the vote in the “worst” debate performance category.

The poll was released July 2 following the Democratic Party’s two-night show in Miami. Overall, former Vice President Joe Biden saw his lead slip from 30 percent to 22 percent, while Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) surged from seven percent to 20 percent, putting her in second place.

Among respondents who watched the first round of debates, 47 percent said Harris had the best performance, followed by Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) at 17 percent, Biden at six percent, and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) at five percent.

“Round one of the Democratic debates puts Senator Kamala Harris and former Vice President Joe Biden on two different trajectories, as support for Harris surges but continues to slip for Biden. Biden’s once commanding lead has evaporated. There are other red flags for him in areas where he still leads, including double digit drops among Democrats and Democratic leaners who view him as the best leader, or as the best candidate to defeat President Trump in 2020,” said Quinnipiac University Polling Analyst Mary Snow in a press release.

For those Minnesota readers, Sen. Amy Klobuchar polled at one percent overall in the post-debate survey.

Notably, Warren took a commanding lead at 31 percent when voters were asked who has the best policy ideas, followed by Sanders at 18 percent, Biden at 11 percent, and Harris at eight percent.

“When it comes to policy ideas, Senator Elizabeth Warren scores higher than any of the Democratic presidential contenders. However, it didn’t give her a boost in her overall numbers in the primary race,” Snow pointed out.

Ryan’s low numbers in the poll could be attributed to one memorable exchange during the debate when he appeared not to know who was responsible for the 9/11 terrorist attacks, as The Ohio Star reported.
