Senator JD Vance Calls ‘Political Persecution’ of Trump a ‘Grave Miscarriage of Justice’

U.S. Senator JD Vance (R-OH) said that the indictment against former President Donald Trump, a 2024 presidential candidate, is a “grave miscarriage of justice.”

Thursday’s indictment results from the protracted investigation into Trump’s alleged use of hush money in connection with porn star Stormy Daniels. To keep Daniels from disclosing her alleged 2006 affair with Trump, Trump’s then-lawyer, Michael Cohen, paid her $130,000 as part of a non-closure agreement near the end of the 2016 presidential campaign. Trump allegedly then paid Cohen back in installments. Trump has denied the affair.

Legal professionals have said that the case of falsifying company records is not strong, especially because Democratic Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg insisted on elevating the charge to a felony. In New York, this is usually a misdemeanor.

Trump is the first former president to face criminal charges. Detractors claim that the case is politically motivated by Democrats against Trump, who declared his presidential campaign soon after the mid-term elections in November of 2022.

According to Vance, Trump’s indictment is political retaliation posing as legal action.

“Today’s indictment of President Trump is political persecution masquerading as law. Donald Trump is the former President of the United States, the leader of our nation’s political opposition, and the presumptive Republican nominee in 2024. Alvin Bragg’s decision to indict him is blatant election interference and a direct assault on the tens of millions of Americans who support him,” Vance said.

According to Vance, this is an unprecedented political persecution of Trump.

“This entire charade is predicated on an unprecedented, doomed-to-fail legal theory and a baseless misdemeanor charge from seven years ago,” Vance said.

Vance stated that the radical left should focus on improving Americans’ lives instead of thwarting their biggest threat in the upcoming presidential election.

“While the radical left continues their obsession with harassing Donald Trump, the American people are suffering. Families are struggling to put food on the table, violent crime is running rampant in our cities, and thousands have been poisoned by the fentanyl pouring across our southern border. Instead of working to improve the lives of the Americans they are supposed to represent, the ruling party is focused on kneecapping their greatest threat in the next election. The American people will see this for exactly what it is: a grave miscarriage of justice,” Vance said.

Trump stated that his indictment is “political persecution and election interference at the highest level in history.”

“The Democrats have lied, cheated and stolen in their obsession with trying to ‘Get Trump,’ but now they’ve done the unthinkable, indicting a completely innocent person in an act of blatant Election Interference,” Trump said.
