The Battleground State Report Talks 2020 Strategy and Says, ‘It’s the Economy Stupid!’

On last Friday’s one hour radio show from Star News Digital Media which is in the early stages of a national weekend syndication roll-out – The Battleground State Report with Steve Gill, Michael Patrick Leahy, and Doug Kellett talked about how big an impact the economy will be a factor in the 2020 Presidential race.

Nearing the end of the segment, the men agreed that the media will not focus on the success stories of Trump and that he should go to were the success’s physically are thereby strategically forcing the media to spotlight them.

Gill: How big of an impact Doug, does the economy have in this race at the end of the day?

Kellett: Well, I totally agree with what you’re saying.  I think the Democrats are not going to be able to run and say the economy’s not doing well. There not going to be able to hit the President on that avenue. The reason to try to answer a question you gave in the last segment there toward the end.

Why is it not being talked about more? Why isn’t the President not getting credit for some of the de-regulation, some of the tax cuts and all of that. I believe it’s because the President doesn’t focus on it like he should.  I think he focus’s on all these other things.

You know he Tweets about one thing or another. Or who’s on television tonight and this and that. I think if there was more of a single purpose, I realize that’s not the way he operates. But if there was more of a single purpose I believe he would be getting a lot more credit.

And ultimately, you guys have been in campaigns and dealt with campaigns and such. Generally the economy is what makes a difference right?

Gill: But their going to have to tell the story. The mainstream media isn’t going to tell it for him. They’re going to cover it up. They’re going to down play it.

Leahy: Exactly.

Gill: His team has to be disciplined and it starts at the top. With  the same thing the Clinton campaign did. It’s the economy stupid. It’s the only thing that matters.

Kellett: So you’re agreeing with me on this right Steve?

Gill: Yeah.

Kellett: I mean that he… That if he would single focus about it. I don’t think Tweeting about, “Well the stock market is at the highest.” Really means a lot to a lot of people because yes the stock market does effect everyone in some fashion a lot of people don’t see it that way right? They don’t see themselves invested.  “Oh I got a 401k,” but they don’t really see the connection there necessarily.

Gill: And the other thing that he’s got to do is go to where the success stories are where things have turned around. The Democrats are going to overplay “one plant shuts down one place because some company made stupid decisions.” That doesn’t reflect what’s going on in the national economy. Doesn’t even reflect what’s going on in the broader state or in that same city. He’s got to show where the success stories are and the best way to do that is to force the media to cover it by going to those spots.
