Ohio’s Presidential Hopeful Tim Ryan Calls Trump-Kim Meeting ‘Appeasement Tour,’ Compares to ‘Chamberlain Going to Talk to Hitler’

Rep. Tim Ryan (D-OH-13) was making the rounds on cable news Sunday morning and attacked President Donald Trump for his historic meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un at the demilitarized zone.

On Sunday, Trump became the first sitting U.S. president to cross the border from South Korea into North Korea.

“Stepping across that line was a great honor,” Trump told reporters after the occasion.

But Ryan blasted the historic moment as the “President Trump appeasement tour” during an appearance on Few News Sunday.

“I think this has been the President Trump appeasement tour. I have no idea why he’s shaking hands with a dictator who just in May was sending missiles into the Sea of Japan. I mean, you don’t reward that kind of behavior with a visit to your country from the President of the United States,” Ryan said.

“There has been no progress at all. They have done nothing,” he continued. “It is historic, but what has been done? Nothing.”

Ryan agreed with host Maria Bartiromo that the meeting was “historic,” but claimed that no real progress has been made.

“It is historic, but for what?” he continued. “What progress has been made? What good faith has been shown? He hasn’t sent a missile into the Sea of Japan in five weeks? I mean, really?”

He went on to say that Trump organized the meeting because he “wants to be on TV.”

“He wants the historic moment. He wants the theater of it all,” Ryan said, claiming Trump is “literally praising a dictator.”

Ryan also made an appearance on CNN’s “Reliable Sources” and compared the moment to British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain’s meeting with Adolf Hitler.

“I’ll tell you I think what happened this weekend with North Korea, with China, I think it was Donald Trump’s appeasement tour and so, I think we need to make sure that we hit him on some of these issues, the economic issues, the fact that 75 percent of the American people are living paycheck to paycheck,” Ryan told host Brian Stelter.

“And they talk about historic moments,” Ryan continued. “Him going to North Korea is like Chamberlain going to talk to Hitler. I mean, this guy was lobbing missiles into the Sea of Japan just a few weeks ago and the president is going to talk to him? I mean, are you kidding me?”
