President Donald Trump’s reelection campaign employed aerial advertising across the city of Westerville, Ohio ahead of Tuesday night’s Democratic debate at Otterbein University.
“Socialism destroys Ohio jobs. Vote Trump,” said an aerial banner circulating the debate location for several hours ahead of the event.
One onlooker captured a video of a plane flying the pro-Trump banner over the debate hall at Otterbein.

“This week’s debate will be another display of the 2020 Democrats’ far-left lurch toward big government socialism,” Tim Murtaugh, Trump campaign communications director, said in a statement ahead of the debate. “While Democrats will use the debate stage to paint a glamorous view of their socialist agenda, Team Trump is here to expose the truth behind their job-killing policies and remind Ohioans what’s at stake in 2020.”
Mandi Merritt, regional communications director for the Republican National Committee, said Tuesday night’s debate proved that the Democrats’ “socialist agenda is too radical for Ohio.”
“From turning a blind eye to our booming economy, to proposing radical policies that would raise taxes, strip Ohioans of their healthcare and kill thousands of jobs across the state, each and every 2020 Democrat would be a disaster for Ohio,” she said.
The Ohio Star was on the ground outside of the debate hall, where a number of Trump supporters gathered to show their support for the president.
“Stop socialism. Stop the Squad. Vote Trump,” said signs carried by the pro-Trump protesters.
“We’re also here to raise peoples’ spirits because of all the negative news about Trump, and we’re here to show he has a lot of support in spite of what they see on the news,” one supporter told The Ohio Star.
The debate attracted a wide variety of protesters, including a group of Democratic voters who favor school choice.
