Emerson Poll: Trump Up in Ohio, Democrat Senator Sherrod Brown Leads All GOP Challengers

Emerson College Polling and WJW-TV Fox 8 Cleveland published results of a poll on Thursday revealing how likely voters in Ohio would vote in the 2024 presidential and Senate race.

In the 2024 presidential election, the poll shows former President Donald Trump with a 12-point lead (50 percent-38 percent) over incumbent President Joe Biden in a hypothetical head-to-head matchup in the Buckeye State while 12 percent of voters remain undecided.

In the 2020 presidential election, Biden lost Ohio to Trump by eight points.

Meanwhile, Biden holds a 32 percent job approval rating among likely Ohio voters, while 58 percent disapprove of his job in office.

As for the 2024 Senate race, U.S. incumbent Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) leads three of his most popular Republican challengers – State Senator Matt Dolan (R-Chagrin Falls), Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose, Cleveland businessman Bernie Moreno – in head-to-head matchups.

Brown leads Dolan by three points (41 percent-38 percent), Moreno by 10 points (42 percent-32 percent), and LaRose by five points (41 percent-36 percent).

More than 20 percent of likely voters in each head-to-head matchup between Brown and his GOP opponent remain undecided.

“While Trump outperforms his 2020 vote in Ohio, Brown still leads the Republican candidates, though within the poll’s margin of error,” Spencer Kimball, executive director of Emerson College Polling, noted in a statement. “About 1 in 10 2024 Trump voters plan to split their ticket and vote for Brown in the Senate matchup against any of the three leading Republican candidates.”

Likely voters were asked what the most important issues they want their elected candidates to focus on: 41 percent said the economy, 9 percent said “threats to democracy,” 8 percent said abortion access, and 8 percent said crime.

Emerson College Polling and WJW-TV Fox 8 Cleveland polled 1,000 Ohio voters who will likely vote in the 2024 general election from November 10-13.
