‘Free Market Warrior’ Spivak Warns Westerville Tea Party: We Are Losing Free Speech and More

WESTERVILLE, Ohio — “Free Market Warrior” Loren Spivak visited Westerville on Tuesday at the invitation of the Westerville Tea Party. Activists in the room settled in to hear Spivak’s talk about “What is ‘The Left,’ and What are They About, Really?”

Spivak began by asking the audience, “What are the fundamental principles behind the Left today?”

“There aren’t any!” he stated, speaking with emphasis. “They have no principles, whatsoever.”

He defined “principles” as something that applies at all times to everybody. An example he provided was the Ten Commandments. “Do you know anyone who’s exempt?” Spivak asked. “Thousands of years old and yet as relevant as ever.”

Spivak compared the Ten Commandments to Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s “11 Commandments of Progressivism” as listed in The Atlantic in 2014. One example of her “Commandments” was,”We believe that Wall Street needs stronger rules and tougher enforcement, and we’re willing to fight for it.”

Warren’s 11th Commandment stated, “And we believe that corporations are not people, that women have a right to their bodies. We will overturn Hobby Lobby and we will fight for it. We will fight for it!”

“None of her ‘principles’ are principles,” Spivak noted. “It’s the absence of principle.”

Spivak gave the Tea Partiers a brief history lesson about the modern American Left. He said it started as a free-speech movement on campuses in the 1960s. Now, the universities, which are largely run by and filled with professors who fought for free speech fifty years ago, are anti-free speech today.

“They are only for free speech when it’s their free speech,” Spivak said. “It’s not a principle, it’s a tactic!

Another issue he pointed to was immigration.

“What if,” he queried, “all the new immigrants voted Republican? The Democrats would build the wall for Trump!”

The question was asked, if the Left doesn’t believe in anything, what are they?

“A cult of power,” Spivak stated. “They believe in power, and want power over you.”

He wrapped up his speech by citing three principles that are under attack today: free speech, the rights of the accused, and capitalism.

Free speech has been so decimated, he declared, that only the United States still has it. The Western World has destroyed free speech rights by creating “hate speech” laws, he suggested.

The evidence that the “rights of the accused” are under attack have been made obvious by the Mueller report, he claimed. “It’s been turned upside down.”

The last principle Spivak said we are in danger of losing is capitalism. “There are only two economic options. Capitalism and socialism. Capitalism says, ‘If you don’t work, you don’t eat.’ Socialism says, ‘If you don’t obey, you don’t eat.'”

Questions and comments centered largely on concerns that the United States is too far gone or that there are not enough people who care to make a difference. Spivak was more positive. “It only takes a minority standing up for what is right to turn the tide,” he said.
