Mark Fraizer Joins the Ohio House of Representatives

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio House of Representatives decided quickly which candidate they wanted to replace Scott Ryan in the 71st House District. Rep. Mark Fraizer (R-Newark), a former page and current city councilman from Newark, won the appointment to the job Wednesday.

“Welcome to the Ohio House of Representatives, Representative Fraizer! We are happy to have you representing the good people of Licking County in Ohio’s 71st House District,” the Ohio House Republicans tweeted.

Gongwer noted the six candidates who were not chosen:

  • Jeremy King, director of sustainability and campus improvement at Denison University.
  • Bradley Chute, funeral director and manager at Vensil & Chute Funeral Home.
  • Thaddeus Claggett, president of Claggett & Son, Inc., a commercial and industrial general contractor.
  • Andrew King, senior elections attorney at the Ohio Secretary of State’s office.
  • Fred Wolf, marketing director in the Shepherd Hill department at Licking Memorial Hospital.
  • Jo Ann Wiblin, a teacher, social service employee and director.”

Scott Ryan resigned from the Ohio House to take a position with the DeWine administration. He will be the Executive Director of Ohio Third Frontier in the Department of Development.

Fraizer’s local paper, the Newark Advocate, shared the news and some details about the freshman Representative. “Fraizer, of Newark, was elected last week to a second term as an at-large member of Newark City Council. He is senior project manager at Huntington Bank and was employed by the Ohio House and Ohio Senate in 2007-09,” they wrote.

“I am very grateful to the people of Licking County and to the Ohio House of Representatives to serve in this new capacity,” Fraizer told the paper. “I am looking forward to serving the constituents of the 71st house district.”

Fraizer’s re-election to Newark City Council on November 6th did not escape the notice of Speaker Householder. He tweeted, “Congrat’s to Mark Fraizer on re-election to Newark City Council.” Rep. Ryan coincidentally resigned on November 6th.

The 71st House District encompasses the northern and western townships of Licking County. It includes Newark, Heath, Granville, Pataskala and Johnstown.
