Oberlin Students Stage Memorial for Islamic Jihad Terrorists and Palestinians Killed by Israel in Military Strikes

The anti-Zionist Oberlin Students for a Free Palestine erected a memorial on campus last week to honor the Palestinians who were killed by Israel in recent military strikes. More than a dozen of the Palestinians were Islamic Jihad terrorists, according to Alegemeiner.

“A commemoration of the 34 Palestinians killed by Israeli rocket fire this last week, installed yesterday in Wilder Bowl,” the group posted on their Facebook page.

In a field of black flags, under a large banner displaying the flag of the Palestinian Authority was a sign that said:

Last week, Israel unleashed violent airstrikes on the Gaza Strip to assassinate Bahaa Abu al-Atta and his wife on Tuesday, November 12th. In the process, killing 34 unarmed Palestinian civilians, including 8 children. Oberlin Students for Free Palestine and Oberlin Jewish Voice for Peace have created this installation to commemorate the lives of these 34 Palestinians who died at the hands of the Zionest Settler Colonialism.

We list the names and ages of those who were lost on each black flag.”

The Oberlin chapter of Jewish Voice for Peace – a like-minded group the pro-Israel Anti-Defamation League calls one of the top ten antisemitic groups in the United States – honored the dead on their Facebook page as well, showcasing several personal photos of those killed including terrorist leader Bahaa Abu Al-Ata.

“As Israel continues firing rockets onto Gaza, we shout the names of those that the IDF has killed,” the group’s Facebook page said.

Bahaa Abu Al-Ata was, “…one of Israel’s most dangerous enemies,” according to Jewish Press. The paper also noted he was, “…very close to Islamic Jihad’s Secretary-General Ziad Nahala, and sources in the Gaza Strip said that ‘the two were out of control and led an aggressive and unruly line led by Iran, while Hamas failed to calm them down.'”

The Algemeiner observed that the Oberlin student activists’ claims about the fallout from the Israel strike “does not accord with casualty tolls shared by international observers and the involved parties, including those in the Gaza Strip, which largely acknowledge that a majority of fatalities were members of Palestinian Islamic Jihad, an Iranian-backed terrorist organization that is blacklisted by the United States, European Union, and others. The group, which aims to replace Israel with an Islamic Palestinian state, has taken responsibility for suicide bombings and other attacks targeting Israeli civilians.”

MEMRI, the Middle East Media Research Group which monitors terrorist organizations and activities, exposed the Palestinian Islamic Jihad as “an Islamist terror group backed by Iran and active in the Palestinian Territories, mainly in Gaza.”

In contrast to the Oberlin student groups, the newspaper displayed the portraits of the dead in uniform.

Palestinian sources cited by the pro-Israel news source agreed 34 died in the airstrikes but declared only 16 of those were civilians. The majority of those killed (18 of the alleged 34) were anti-Israel combatants – a detail both the Jewish Voice for Peace and the Students for a Free Palestine student groups omitted.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) disputed the Palestinian numbers. It estimated 25 of the dead were Islamic Jihad Terrorists.

Israel acknowledged some civilians died in the attacks. According to The Algemeiner, the IDF is investigating the deaths of eight people.
