Lawmakers Testify on Resolution to End Foreign Ownership of Ohio Power Plants, Other Forms of Critical Infrastructure
An Ohio House committee conducted its first hearing into a resolution for an amendment to prohibit foreign ownership of power plants and any other critical infrastructure in the state, such as water treatment facilities or oil and gas pipelines.

Ohioans Against Corporate Bailouts have been fighting House Bill 6, the “nuclear bailout bill”, passed by the Legislature in July. The group received permission to proceed on their petition drive the end of August. They are attempting to put the bill on the ballot in November 2020. On Sunday, they began their own television ad campaign to combat the ads being run by Ohioans for Energy Security, an organization trying to stop the referendum from getting to the ballot.

Last week First Energy Solutions (FES), which owns the two nuclear power plants in northern Ohio, sued the Ohio Secretary of State and Ohioans Against Corporate Bailouts. FES wants to stop the Bailout group from moving ahead with their referendum against House Bill 6 – known as the nuclear bailout – and they asked for the case to be expedited. Attorney General Dave Yost declined their request.
