Former Ohio Gov. John Kasich Defends Impeachment, Critiques American Political Divisiveness on Jimmy Kimmel Live

Former Ohio Gov. John Kasich defended his decision to support the impeachment of President Trump during an interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Friday, saying it is “crazy” to say Trump did nothing wrong.

“Maybe you don’t support impeachment, maybe you don’t support censure, but you can’t look the other way and say the president didn’t do anything wrong. I mean, that’s just completely crazy,” Kasich said on the show. “I came out for this because I believe the president said to the leader of Ukraine, with Russian troops inside of Ukraine, that ‘I will help you with military aid if you investigate my political opponent.’ That’s too much for me.”

Kasich first announced he supported Trump’s impeachment in October. The U.S. House of Representatives passed two articles of impeachment last week.

Kasich went on to say that he is concerned about the division in American politics in culture.

“We have to get out of our silos, Jimmy. We can’t just absorb things that we agree with,” Kasich said. “It’s one of the dangers in our country. If we absorb only that which agrees with us, we don’t grow as a person and have trouble finding the truth.”

The former governor added that he is fearful about people losing sight of the truth and how Americans “don’t even agree on the basics.”

“That’s how a country gets in deep trouble,” Kasich said. “I’m worried about the culture, not just short term but long term.”

Kasich encouraged voters to take back power by recognizing that they can demand change rather than rely on politicians, emphasizing that change comes from the ground up, rather than top-down power. He added that voters should assert themselves either by joining a movement or “with kindness.”

“That’s the antidote to all the craziness we see in Washington,” We’re going to be fine when people get their confidence back. “
