State Rep Candice Keller Under Fire for Blaming Mass Shootings on Destruction of the Family

State Rep. Candice Keller (R-Middletown) is under fire for comments she made on Facebook about the recent mass shootings in Dayton and El Paso.

Democrats, some Ohio Republicans, Leftists, and the national media have all joined forces to attack her. Keller blamed the massacres on the “breakdown of the traditional American family,” which she detailed in her post:

After every mass shooting, the liberals start the blame game. Why not place the blame where it belongs? The breakdown of the traditional American family (thank you, transgender, homosexual marriage, and drag queen advocates); fatherlessness, a subject no one discusses or believes is relevant; the ignoring of violent video games; the relaxing of laws against criminals (open borders); the acceptance of recreational marijuana; failed school policies (hello, parents who defend misbehaving students): disrespect to law enforcement (thank you, Obama); hatred of our veterans (thank you, professional athletes who hate our flag and National Anthem); the Dem Congress, many members whom are openly anti-Semitic; the culture, which totally ignores the importance of God and the church (until they elect a President); state officeholders, who have no interest whatsoever in learning about our Constitution and the Second Amendment; and snowflakes, who can’t accept a duly-elected President.
Did I forget anybody? The list is long. And the fury will continue.”

Her post has now gone viral.

It caught the attention of her fellow Republicans in Ohio. Jane Timken, chairwoman of the Ohio Republican Party, has even called for Keller to resign.

“While our nation was in utter shock over the acts of violence in El Paso and Dayton, Republican State Representative Candice Keller took to social media to state why she thought these acts were happening. Candice Keller’s Facebook post was shocking and utterly unjustifiable,” Timken said in a statement provided to The Columbus Dispatch

“Our nation is reeling from these senseless acts of violence and public servants should be working to bring our communities together, not promoting divisiveness. I am calling on Candice Keller to resign,” Timken declared.

However other Republicans, including many in Keller’s district, are very supportive of her view. Since the post was changed to “private,” she’s received nearly 100 comments, all supportive.

Keller told The Ohio Star that she’s receiving “huge, huge local support.”

“Donations increased drastically and we’ve got over 1,000 yard sign locations from that story,” she said of her campaign for the State Senate.

Still, others in her district have a different perspective.

Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones added his voice to the chorus of those calling on Keller to resign.

“Yes, I called for her resignation this morning,” Sheriff Jones told The Ohio Star on Monday. “This isn’t the first time she’s made these terrible, horrific comments about people, the way they dress, their gender, their sexual orientation, cross-gender, I think, homosexuals, lesbians, there’s nothing she left out. These people aren’t even buried yet and she’s making these terrible comments about people and it’s just reached a fever pitch in our community here.”

“Instead of talking about healing and trying to figure out why and mourn the dead, we have to talk about this craziness,” Jones added. “[I’m] not ready to speak about anything right now, about why, but [I want to focus on] the victims and the heroic law enforcement. No, I’m not going to talk about the reason. Candice is talking about the ‘why.'”

Sheriff Jones is a supporter of State Rep. George Lang (R-West Chester), who is running against Keller in the primary for State Senate.

James Harrison, national director of the Natural Family Foundation, wanted to talk about “the why.”

“The problem in America is not guns nor is it even drugs, racism, bullying or selected political leaders – it is the purposeful breakdown of the family. If you want to stop the senseless acts that we are experiencing in America, we must first fix the family. If we don’t fix the family, nothing else will work,” he said.

An entire section on the family and its importance to civilized society can be found on the Heritage Foundation’s website. Heritage states, “Marriage and family are the building blocks of all human civilization and the primary institutions of civil society.”

William Bennett, former education secretary for President Ronald Reagan, penned an op-ed for The New York Times about Republican views of the family. He suggested that strong families equals less crime.

“Republicans are talking about family values because they see the family breaking down in front of them. This talk isn’t just happy, wishful thinking; this isn’t nostalgia; this is reality,” he wrote. “If we have stronger families we will have stronger schools, stronger churches, and stronger communities with less poverty and less crime. The family is the linchpin of society, both economically and socially.”

One Ohio organization that has seen the damage of the failing traditional family up close and personal is Ohio Value Voters, Inc. John and Diane Stover have been exposing graphic sex education in the public school system.

“The perpetrator of this evil crime in Dayton is solely responsible for his actions. However, the overall breakdown of the family and society’s moral fabric have created the conditions that make these horrific events so frequent. It was reported that the Dayton gunman praised Satan,” said John Stover, Ohio Value Voters president.

“Our nation’s moral compass has changed dramatically over the years,” he continued. “It is correct to point out the breakdown of moral values that were once embraced by our country.”

It doesn’t look like a winning position, pointing out the truth. Fact is 26 of the 27 worst mass shootings were comitted by men without a proper male role model ( see the word…..dad) in their life. Same applies to non mass murderers.
