Congressman Michael Turner Accuses Pelosi of ‘Secret Hearings’ and More in Letter About Impeachment

Representative Michael Turner (R-OH-10) sent a letter to Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Friday calling on her to open the process to scrutiny by the American public. Turner posted his correspondence on Twitter, writing: “@SpeakerPelosi’s impeachment inquiry is being conduced in secret hearings, with potentially secret witnesses, & has a secret inception.”

In his letter, Rep Turner wrote:

Hearings are being conducted in secret; Democrats are selectively leaking false information that is sometimes blatantly contrary to witness testimony; you are now even considering having secret witnesses. The American public are receiving reports on this impeachment inquiry that are based on misinformation. This is a process that needs to be open for public scrutiny. Something so incredibly important as removing the President of the United States and undoing our electoral proceedings cannot be done in secret.”

Turner also noted that Democratic Members and staff were leaking information they claimed was from Ambassador Volker’s closed-door session. In fact, the leaked information was, “…in direct contradiction to Volker’s testimony,” said Turner in the letter. And he further accused Pelosi of trying to control what the American public was hearing about impeachment.

“Now your committees are discussing holding not only secret hearings, but interviewing secret witnesses. You are robbing the American public of their right to judge for themselves the veracity and credibility of these witnesses and this investigation. The American public is also unable in this process to judge the professionalism, predisposition, and bias of the questioners in this inquiry. It is unfathomable and unacceptable,” the Congressman exclaimed.

Turner continued, “Now, reportedly, just this week in federal court, your lawyer, which you appointed to argue on behalf of the U.S. House of Representatives, told a Chief Judge in U.S. District Court that the President did not have to commit a crime to be impeached. The Constitution is clear: ‘The President…shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.’ A crime must be committed. However, your legal counsel is now trying to argue blatantly against the Constitution.”

The Congressman told Pelosi, “You have said the country is in a constitutional crisis. You are right, Madam Speaker, we are, and it is by your design and creation.”

President Trump continued to lash out at the impeachment proceedings Sunday night, targeting Congressman Adam Schiff (D-28-CA), Chair of the House Intelligence Committee who is running the impeachment inquiry, with a two-fer tweet.

The President penned, “Congressman Adam Schiff, who when seeing the REAL Ukraine phone call Transcript decided he’d better make up one of his own. ‘I’m going to say this only SEVEN times, so you better listen good. I want you to MAKE UP DIRT ON MY POLITICAL OPPONENT, UNDERSTAND, LOTS OF IT, AND…..”

“…..BY THE WAY, DON’T CALL ME AGAIN, I’LL CALL YOU WHEN YOU’VE DONE WHAT I’VE ASKED.’” A reminder, that wasn’t just stupid, it was FALSE.” @greggutfeld @GregGutfeldShow @FoxNews
I never said this. Schiff made it up and read it to Congress & the American People. End Witch Hunt!” demanded the President.
