Rep. Steve Stivers

U.S. Rep. Steve Stivers (R-OH) announced on Tuesday that he will be resigning from his position in order to serve as the president and CEO of the Ohio Chamber of Commerce.

Stivers, who has served for six terms in Congress, will resign effective May 16.

“It has been my honor and privilege to serve the people of Ohio’s 15th Congressional District,” Stivers said in a statement.  “Throughout my career in public service I’ve worked to promote policies that drive our economy forward, get folks to work, and put our country’s fiscal house in order.”

Stivers is currently the Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Housing, Community Development and Insurance. He will be replacing Andrew Doehrel as president and CEO of the Ohio Chamber of Commerce. Doehrel had held the position since 1993.

“After an extensive search, we are excited to share that native Ohioan, former state senator, current U.S. congressman, and current Major General in the Ohio National guard, Steve Stivers, will become the next president and CEO of the Ohio Chamber of Commerce,” said Chairman-Elect and leader of the Ohio Chamber’s search committee, Frank Carrino, in a statement. “We had many outstanding applicants for this top-level leadership position so the committee invested much time and due diligence in the search.”

The Ohio representative has also previously worked in the state Senate, in addition to serving for more than 30 years in the Ohio Army National Guard.

“For the past decade, Rep. Steve Stivers has been a fighter for working class Ohioans and small businesses, promoting pro-job, pro-growth fiscal policies,” said Ohio Republican Party Chairman Bob Paduchik in a statement. “…Rep. Stivers has made a positive difference in the lives of Ohioans, and we are grateful for his dedication and service to our great state.”

Stivers said that serving as representative “has been one of the biggest honors of my life.”

“The best part of this job has been making a positive difference in the lives of constituents,” Stivers said.  “I am grateful to the people of Ohio’s 15th Congressional District for putting their trust in me to represent them in the halls of Congress.”
