Ohio Businessman Mike Gibbons Joins U.S. Senate Race

Cleveland businessman and 2018 U.S. Senate candidate Mike Gibbons has officially entered the 2022 Senate race.

In his announcement, Gibbons stated that he can help others achieve their American Dream, because he did that for himself. He added that he’s never been a career politician. Instead, he described his journey as a self-made businessman who spent over 30 years helping local Ohio companies grow.

“I’ve achieved my American Dream. I’m running for Senate to help more people achieve their American Dreams,” said Gibbons. “I’m a businessman, not a politician. I’m blunt, plain-spoken, and I tell it like it is. I’m running for Senate because this isn’t the time for career politicians or party insiders. The last thing we need is another go-along-to-get-along rubber stamp in Washington.”

According to Gibbons, he would focus first on reigning in federal spending, securing the borders, and defending 2nd Amendment rights. In all he plans to do, Gibbons shared that he’d be prioritizing families, churches, neighborhoods, and small towns.

“I believe that America is the greatest country in the world, but we need to stand up to the cancel culture and the lies of those who seek to divide us,” said Gibbons.

As The Ohio Star reported last month, other Republicans gunning for retiring Senator Rob Portman’s seat (R-OH) are two-term Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel, former Ohio Republican Party Chairwoman Jane Timken, military leader and EMS pilot Mike Leipold, and Dublin businessman Mark Pukita. Since then, one other prominent businessman has entered the race: car dealer and tech executive Bernie Moreno.

This wouldn’t be Gibbons’ first run. He ran in the Republican primary for Senate in 2018. Despite that being his first major political run, Gibbons won 38 of the 88 counties and 32 percent of the vote.

Gibbons also served as the Ohio Finance Co-Chair for previous President Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign. Last year, Gibbons contributed to Trump’s campaign efforts as well.
